NEWS: Making Conversations Count – The health and economic benefits of improving smoking cessation support in the UK

Today, Cancer Research UK has published a new report Making Conversations Work: The health and economic benefits of improving smoking cessation support in UK general practice which includes modelling conducted by HealthLumen. The report found that by 2039 improved delivery of stop smoking support in general practice in the UK could prevent:

  • > 400,000 cases of smoking-related disease
  • ~ 90,000 premature deaths
  • ~ £10bn smoking-related healthcare costs
  • ~ £15bn wider societal costs
