There are over 7,000 known rare diseases, each individually affecting only a small proportion of the population, but collectively impacting millions of people worldwide. Only a fraction of these diseases currently have approved therapies, with a lack of comprehensive data on rare disease prevalence representing one key barrier to drug development.
At HealthLumen, we have been developing our genetic database mining methodology to provide a solution to accurately estimating the size of rare disease patient populations. These robust estimates can be used to inform each stage of the drug development lifecycle, from R&D through to post registration, to help accelerate patient access to rare disease therapies.
